Kathleen was the eldest child of Edward and Dorothy Murphy. She graduated from Buffalo State Teachers College, where she met Anton Schwarzmueller. They were married in 1962. She was a teacher at Alexander Hamilton Elementary School in Tonawanda during the early 1960s. Kathleen and Anton had 6 children; Anton, Molly, Amy, Eric, Kris, and Rose.
