Eugene “Gene” Brown
Gene went to be with his LORD and SAVIOR January 28, 2017 at approximately 8:00 am surrounded by his loving family.
Gene was born August 20, 1934 in Ashland, KY. Gene’s parents were Elmer and Ellen Brown.
Gene was preceded in death by his Mother and Father, two brothers, Curtis Brown, and Elmer, Jr., and one sister, Pat Alosie, one daughter, Terri Brown and a Great Grandmother, Stratton Rae Crawford.
Gene served 4 years in the United States Air Force. Gene was an accomplished Auto Body and Auto Mechanic, working at several locations around the United States. Prior to his retirement Gene owned his own business in Golconda; Golconda Body Shop, from 1990 to 2000. Gene also co-owned Main Street Coin laundry with his wife Betty and step-daughter and son-in-law Jim and Karla Suits from 1998 to 2014.
After his retirement in 2014 Gene remained active in the Rotary Club of Golconda and was an active member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church ON THE HILL in Golconda. Gene served as an Elder and was always the 1st to arrive to Bible Study where he brewed the coffee and laid out refreshments for those attending Bible Study.
Gene enjoyed fishing and really enjoyed fishing off of his boat in the Ohio River and some private ponds in Pope County. Gene also enjoyed woodworking and riding his golf cart around the city streets of Golconda.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of 33 years Betty M. Brown. Gene and Betty lived comfortably in their home just off of Main Street in the city of Golconda, which was close to his Body Shop, Church and Golden Circle where he played cards daily and met with his retired friends.
Gene will be remembered as a loving husband, friend to many and a hard worker.
Gene is also survived by a brother, Jack Brown of Ashland, KY; two sisters, Nell Arnott of Bryan, TX, Janet (Steve) Manske of Bryan, TX; two daughters, Rochelle Grove of Austin, TX, Paula Thedford of Hawaii; grandsons, Austin Thedford, Billy Ray Thedford; granddaughters, Ashley Gove, Laura Alosi; great grandson, John; great granddaughter, Sophia; four step-daughters, Connie Krammer, Meloney (Delton) Rhea, Karla (Jim) Suits, Kathy (Jerry) Suits; nine step-grandchildren; twenty two step-great grandchildren whom he loved and who loved him very much.
Funeral service will be 1:00pm on February 1, 2017 at Aly Funeral Home in Eddyville, Illinois. The service will be conducted by Pastor David Otten. Interment will follow the service at IOOF Cemetery in Golconda, IL. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until time of service on Wednesday February 1, 2017 at the funeral home.
