WAYNESVILLE - Rita Rowell Frank, age 84, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Memorial Mission Hospital.
Rita was born in Charlotte, North Carolina during the depression on October 11, 1932 to Julius D. Rowell and Dorothy W. Hall. She graduated from the local schools, and attended Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina and attended the University of Minnesota.
Rita married Ensign (U.S.N.) Raymond C. Shaw, Jr. on July 11, 1953. They had one son, Raymond C. Shaw, III. They lived in Quonset Point, Rhode Island. Her husband was a Lieutenant and a Navy Pilot when he was killed flying during an Airshow in 1957.
Rita later married Sidney M. Frank, who also was a Charlotte native. Mr. Frank was associated throughout his career with America Credit, which eventually became Barclay's Bank. Rita was a Realtor/Broker who worked with several companies in Charlotte during the 10 years they resided there. Rita and Sid relocated frequently due to Sid's employment. They lived in Mississippi, South Carolina, Georgia and Texas and ended up residing in the mountains of North Carolina. Due to being transferred often, Rita made a career change into counseling. Rita was a member of First United Methodist Church in Waynesville.
Rita is survived by her husband, Sidney M. Frank; son, Raymond S. Frank; sisters, Anita Hoefs, Diana Deviney and Kathy Barry; many close cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at the Waynesville Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Reverend Sanford L. Giles, officiating. Interment will be in Charlotte, North Carolina at a later date.
