Obituary for Harry Neustadter
NEUSTADTER, HARRY, 93 – of Ventnor, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on the morning of December 24, 2016. Born on February 11, 1923 and raised in Atlantic City, NJ, Harry was the eldest of four brothers and was a loyal and honorable man, brother, son, husband, uncle, father, grandfather, and friend. His passing leaves a great void. He was a graduate of Atlantic City High School where he met the love of his life, Anita, and was inducted into the Atlantic City High School Athletic Hall of Fame as a member and captain of the 1938 Boys Basketball Team. He attended Ursinus College for two years before enlisting into the U.S. ARMY AIR CORPS Division, where he was stationed in Sioux City, Iowa, with his cousin Sol Katz. After the war, Harry went on to own and operate Atlantic City Fuel Company. After selling his business he worked in insurance and real estate. In addition to his successful career, he also worked with his daughters for over 30 years at their women’s knitwear company, Carolyn Eve, in Boulder, CO. Harry also served as the President of the Federation of Jewish Agencies for Atlantic and Cape May counties and he served on the Margate City Planning Board for 23 years. Upon his retirement from the Planning Board he was honored for his invaluable service and Thursday, April 22, 1999 was declared as “Harry Neustadter Day.” He was a championship golfer at Linwood Country Club for many years, and traveled the world with his wife, his children, and his grandchildren, and loved spending time on the beach. He will be remembered by his devoted wife of 72 years, Anita (nee Bishop), his son Mark (Kati), and his two daughters Carolyn Birnbach (Mark) and Marjorie Wildstein; his five grandchildren, Samantha, Rebecca, Jake, Dylan, and Ben; brother the Honorable Robert Neustadter (June), and sister-in-law- Shirlee; and his adoring extended family, including many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents, Dora and Sam Neustadter, and his twin brothers, Milton and Max. The family would also like to especially thank Harry’s wonderful caregivers, Miles and Mike, for years of devoted care. Relatives and friends are invited to attend services Tuesday, December 27th at 1pm at Congregation Shirat Hayam (formerly Beth Judah), 700 N. Swarthmore Avenue, Ventnor, NJ. Internment to follow at Rodef Sholom Cemetery in Egg Harbor Twp. Shiva will be observed following services on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm at the home of Marjorie Wildstein. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Michael J. Neustadter Pancreatic Cancer Fund, P.O. Box 3265, Margate, NJ 08402, or the charity of their choice.
