She was born Sept. 20, 1921, in Excelsior, a daughter of the late Alexander and Justine (Kohan) Serafin.
Anna attended the former Whitney School in Excelsior and was a graduate of the former Coal Township High School.
On August 7, 1948, in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, New York City, she married John Charles Patrick Boland, who preceded her in death March 1, 1994.
Early in her life she worked as a domestic and at Publix Metal Goods Corporation Defense Plant, both in New York City.
She resided for a time in the Bronx, New York City, and New Jersey. In 1994, she returned to Shamokin.
Anna's faith in God was of utmost importance to her throughout her life. She was a member of both Transfiguration Ukrainian Catholic Church and Mother Cabrini Church, of Shamokin. She previously attended Church of the Incarnation and St. Brendan's Church, both of New York City, New York, and Queen of Peace Church, Bayonne, New Jersey. She also had a very strong lifelong devotion to the Blessed Mother.
She is survived by three children, Nancy Ann Boland, of Southampton, New York, Helen Patricia Weaver, and her husband, David, of Manassas, Virginia, and John Michael Boland, and his wife, Heidi, of Nanuet, New York; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Anderson and Jean Ciraldo; and two brothers, John and Nicholas Serafin.
BOLAND — Anna Boland, 95, of 170 E. Dewart St., Shamokin. A Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Transfiguration Ukrainian Catholic Church, Shamokin, with the Rev. Mykola Ivanov as celebrant. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery, Coal Township. A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Stephen A. Chowka Funeral Home, 114 N. Shamokin St., Shamokin.
