Larry Ambrose Hagen was born on March 11, 1940 in Thief River Falls, MN, the son of Delmar and Eunice (Johnson) Hagen.  He attended school in Gatzke and graduated from NW Agriculture School in Crookston in 1958.  After graduation Larry ran the family farm during his father, Delmar’s Centennial Ox Cart Trip from Pembina, ND to St. Paul, MN.

In 1959 he enlisted in the U. S. Army and was stationed in Ft. Lewis Washington and also did one tour in Korea.

In 1961 he returned to Gatzke and worked for a time running dragline at Agassiz Wildlife Refuge and also in bridge and road construction.  Larry returned to the family farm where he farmed and raised registered Hereford Cattle with his father.

On July 15, 1978 Larry was married to Ila (Pittman) Englund, happily becoming a father to four sons – Kelly, Lon, Lance, and Kurt.  To this union their daughter, Lori Ann was born.  They made their home and raised their family on the Hagen farm in Gatzke.

Larry spent his life in the place he loved, doing what he loved, farming and working the land. Larry was working the land the morning he fell ill. After his passing, his family discovered the project he was working on had been completed. Larry returned home knowing his work was done. Larry was also a pilot who spent many years aerial spraying.  Larry loved flying and especially enjoyed taking his grandchildren for plane rides.

Larry was an active and respected member of the community.  He served on the American State Bank Board of Directors since 1984, as well as being a lifelong member of United Lutheran Church in Gatzke.

Larry is survived by his wife, Ila; children, Lon Englund of Gatzke, MN, Lance (Esther) Englund of Pahrump, NV, Kurt (Sheri) Englund of Esko, MN, Lori (David) Jones of Gatzke, MN; grandchildren, Cody Nevala, Regan Englund, Nathaniel Fremstad, Savannah Englund, Michael and Alex Morrell, Paige Thunder, Nicholas Englund, and Walter, Lewis, and Gus Jones; sisters, Harlene Hagen and Penny (Eldon) Johnson; many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

He is preceded by his parents, Delmar and Eunice Hagen; son, Kelly Englund; niece, Lana Johnson.

The family would like to thank the Middle River EMT's and First Responders and the caring and professional staff at the Thief River Falls hospital and Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND.
