Margaret Cortman, 71, passed away in her home on September 06, 2017. Margaret was born in Manhattan, NY in 1946 and raised in East Rutherford, NJ. She moved to Sarasota with her husband, Vincent Cortman, shortly after they married in 1977 and welcomed their only child, Christina, in 1990. Margaret was a woman of many passions as evidenced by both her community involvement and her hobbies. She was a longtime volunteer with the Special Olympics for many years, as well as for Arbor House, a transitional home for abused women, before her health required her to focus on self-care. At home, Margaret enjoyed cooking and was an avid collector of circus memorabilia, particularly of Emmett Kelly. Of all her passions, she cherished motherhood most. Margaret shared a special bond with her daughter and was always active in every aspect of her life. One of her proudest moments came in 2012, when she watched as Christina married her soulmate. Prior to her passing, Margaret worked as a customer service specialist, a title that speaks to the personable and empathetic woman that Margaret truly was, yet doesn't quite represent the three decades of highly professional experience and expertise that made her a leader in her field. Her most notable role was managing a staff of 50 at Meadowlands, Inc. where her largest client was the New York Giants. Margaret was preceded by her husband, who passed in 2000, and is survived by her daughter. A private graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 20, 2017.
