Many were saddened Sunday to hear of the sudden death of Uncle Joe Freeman at his home here.

He was born at Dennison's Corners, May 9, 1840 the third child and son of Betsy Osterout Freeman and Samuel Freeman. He came here over 60 years ago and was married to Frances Bateman, who died about 1 1/2 years ago. He was the first man to enlist from here in 1861 and after his term of enlistment, re-enlisted for a second time and received two honorable discharges. Uncle Joe as he was familiarly known, was a great favorite with everyone and the children all found a warm spot in his tender heart.

He will be missed and mourned by everyone. The funeral was held at the Episcopal church, Tuesday afternoon. The school attended the services in a body with their teachers, Misses Veley accompanying them. The church was crowded and showed
the esteem in which he was held by all. He was laid to rest in the quiet churchyard of Zion Parish. He leaves to mourn his loss, 3 brothers, David of Herkimer, Rozelle and Anson of Little Falls; also several nieces and nephews. Undertaker Scott of Adams had charge of the funeral.
