Daughter of Joseph Leo and Mamie Laura Fields Blackmon, wife of Travis Lavern Rowell.

"Mom went to Nursing School in Mullins at the Mullins Hospital and that's where she met my daddy. He was her patient; had to have his appendix out, I think it was. He told her that he loved her on first sight (this is my daddy's version of the instant love affair) and that he was going to marry her. That was right before he was put to sleep to have surgery. Anyway he got his way and they got married!" - Hibby Rowell Jeffords
