Michael "Mike" Shockman
January 27, 1953 - April 25, 2019

Thursday, April 25, 2019, at the age of 66, Michael Curtis Shockman, beloved son and brother, passed away peacefully of natural causes at his home.

Mike was born on January 27, 1953 in LaMoure, ND to Calvin and Maxine (Rasmusson) Shockman. He grew up on the family farm near Grand Rapids, ND. Mike graduated from LaMoure High School in 1971. He worked at a variety of jobs throughout his life, including as a farm worker, a truck driver, a small business entrepreneur growing and selling sweet corn, and for the last ten years as manager of the LaMoure County Memorial Park.

Mike was an avid sports enthusiast both as a participant and a spectator. He played high school basketball, football, legion baseball and enjoyed golfing as an adult. A highlight of his high school sports career was playing as a pitcher and first baseman for the 1971 State Championship LaMoure Legion baseball team. Michael loved playing cards, especially pinochle. When younger he was the best War, Monopoly and Double Demon player in the family, which he would say was no small feat, as his brothers and sisters had a bit of a competitive streak!

Michael inherited his Grandpa Mike’s and Dad Kelly’s quick wit and sense of humor. He loved to make family and friends laugh, which he did often. He was an intellectual who continually sought knowledge and truth. He brought unfaltering passion to a variety of interests, including philosophy, religion and politics. He led a simple life guided by the virtues of kindness and humility. Mike lived in many places, but no matter where life took him, family always drew him home.

He was loved and will be missed by his parents, siblings Caline (Terry) Olson, Mary (Noel) Johnson, Charla (Joe) Warcken, Colette Gross, Kevin Shockman, Mark Shockman, Monica (Mike) Berry, Karyn (Dennis) Holen, Daniel (Kim) Shockman, Patrick (Tonya) Shockman, Elizabeth Carpenter, 39 nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his infant brother James.
