Eliza Burks, nee Denton, was born in Indiana, Sept. 26, 1847, later moving to Illinois with her parents. She lived there until she was 19 years old when she moved to Missouri.

In her 19th year, on May 2, 1869, she was married to Edward W. Burks, and to this union five children were born, the oldest dying in infancy. The others are Mrs. Cora Woolsey, Glenarm, Ill.; Howard Burks, Crocker, Mo.; and Theodore Burks, Salem, Mo.

Soon after her marriage she professed faith in Christ and united with the Christian Church at Hickory Point where she ever lived a faithful Christian life. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother.

She died at the home of her son, Howard, in Crocker, Mo., August 25, 1922. The end was peaceful as was her life. She will be missed by those who knew her. May God's richest blessing rest on the aged companion, children and grandchildren is the prayer of the entire community. -W.S. Birge
