BENTLEY HOWARD BURKS Former Oil Co. Agent Died in Lebanon

Bentley Howard Burks, 78, formerly an agent for the Sinclair Oil Co. for 18 years in the Crocker vicinity, died April 4 at the Knox Nursing Home in Lebanon.

Mr. Burks had been in failing health for the past eight years and bedfast for the past six weeks. He retired because of ill health in 1937. He was the son of Edmomd W. and Eliza Burks. On June 2, 1901, he was united in marriage to Nancy Ann Shelton. To this union four children were born. His wife preceded him in death May 9, 1944.

In January, 1947, he was united in marriage to Zoe Whitworth of Macks Creek. She survives at the home. Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Lola Mitchell of Waynesville; one son, Ivan H. Burks, Lebanon; one brother, R. T. Burks, Crocker and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, two daughters and three sisters.

Funeral services were held last Wednesday, April 6, at the Crocker Christian Church by the Rev. Byron Clark assisted by the Rev. Art Gott. Interment was made in the Hickory Point Cemetery under the direction of Hodges Funeral Home at Crocker. Casket bearers were Floyd Jones, Frank Ponder, Walter Patterson, Hugh Sharp, Jack Johnson and Nick Courtney.
