He was best known for playing the character roles of recruits, deputies, soldiers and military officers, commentators, lawyers, fire captains, and public officials, usually in military films, action adventure films, and western films and television series. He will be best remembered for playing the role of Chief Forest Ranger George Keeley in 85 episodes of the classic Canadian television adventure series "The Forest Rangers" from 1963 to 1965. The television series was directed by George McGowan, George Gorman, Paul Almond, Don Haldane. Eric Till, Ronald Weyman, Leslie Arliss, Melwyn Breen, and William Davidson, and was written for the screen by George Salverson, Paul Power, Michael Leighton, Donald Jack, Brian Hadley James, and Lindsay Galloway; it also starred Ralph Endersby, Gordon Pinsent, Rex Hagon, Susan Conway, Syme Jago, and Michael Zenon, and was filmed in Bracebridge, Ontario, Canada, among other locations. The series focused on the daily lives of junior forest rangers who caught criminals including poachers and who also helped to keep their forest safe from fires, and other dangers. He is also best remembered for playing the role of 'Fane' in the crime film drama "On The Run" (1958). The film which was directed by Ernest Morris, which was written for the screen by Brian Clemens and Eldon Howard, and which also starred Neil McCallum, Susan Beaumont, and William Hartnell, tells the story of an ex-boxer on the run from gangsters for refusing to throw a fight, who helps a garage owner and his daughter to improve their business. He was born as Robert Graydon Gould in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada, the only child of Robert Gould, a head teacher, and his wife Hilda Breeze Gould, also a teacher, on April 3, 1937. He was educated locally and attended the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, where he became interested in drama. He later dropped out of university and worked on the TransCanada natural gas pipeline to earn enough money to get to drama school in England. He later pursued an acting career and worked in both his native Canada and in England. He made his actual television role playing the role of 'Ron' in the episode entitled, "Hands Across The Sea," of the crime thriller television series drama, "The Vise," which originally aired on September 20, 1957, and which also starred Donald Gray, Neil McCallum, and Faith Bailey. Besides, playing the role of 'Fane' in the crime film drama, "On The Run" (1958), his many other film credits include, "Carry On Sergeant" (1958), "Links Of Justice" (1958), "Floods Of Fear" (1958), "A Moon For The Misbegotten" (1960), "A Night Of Passion" (1960), "The Watching Cat" (1961), "All Night Long" (1962), "Two And Two Make Six" (1962), "The Victors" (1963), "Twelfth Night" (1964), "Counter Etiquette. Barry Chuckle, however, is in a position to save the day financially when it turns out that he possesses the extremely rare and valuable first-ever copy of the Beetleman comic. He retired from acting shortly thereafter. During his acting career he also used the name Philip Gough and R. Graydon Gould. Besides acting in television and films he also appeared on the stage. On an interesting note, he once enrolled in an English drama school in 1957, and his tutor immediately tried to eliminate his Canadian accent. He left the school weeks later. The actor recalled, "I was determined to make out as a Canadian." He passed away following a short illness in Twickenham, England, on February 25, 2020, at the age of 82. His funeral service and cremation were held through Mortlake Crematorium in Mortlake, England. He was married to Carol Hoehler Gould, and to Judy Poppy Gould.
