US Continental Congressman. During the Revolutionary War, he served as a captain in the Continental Army. He served in the South Carolina House of Representatives in 1779 and was elected a member of the Second Continental Congress in 1780. From 1786 to 1788, he was a member of the state House of Representatives, state legislative council in 1789 and the state constitutional convention in 1790.
