Esther was the daughter of Lloyd Alvin Everhart and Sarah Willimina "Minnie" (Stroup) Everhart of Coshocton County, Ohio. She grew up German Lutheran. Esther, along with her husband of 59 years, Abraham H. Mast, and their children, performed on the Major Bowes Amateur Radio Hour in New York City in 1939, with Esther playing piano and the children singing and tap dancing. The won second place in the contest. The family were known performers in their area. Their children included Kenneth Eugene Mast, Marilyn Mast Mattevi, Bertie Mast Showers, Wanda Mast Knox, and Abe L. Mast. They had 22 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren, and at present (2020) have 45 great-great grandchildren. Esther died of complications from uterine cancer at age 77. Abraham H. Mast died of natural causes in 1996 at the age of 93.
