Lawrence Weinberg, Jr., 84, of Cole Camp, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2020, at his home. He was born on July 29, 1935, on a farm east of Cole Camp on Balke Prairie, a son of Lawrence and Mildred (Eckhoff) Weinberg.

Junior was baptized on August 18, 1935, and confirmed on April 10, 1949, at Trinity Lutheran Church. He attended both the Lutheran School and Benton County R-1 School and graduated from Cole Camp High School with the Class of 1953.

He began work at an early age, when he was about nine years old, he peddled milk for the Ahrens and Viebrock families. While in high school, he ran the projectors for the Fox Theatre in Cole Camp. Junior worked at Pittsburgh Corning in Sedalia. In 1958, he was drafted into the United States Army and served his country honorably for two years. After his discharge from the military, he went back to work for Pittsburgh Corning and worked there for a total of twelve years. He was the owner of Weinberg Conoco in Cole Camp for the next twelve years; and also worked for the Benton County Road District #2 for twelve years, and as Benton County Commissioner for eight years.

On August 4, 1973, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cole Camp, he was united in marriage to JoAnn Hayward. This union was blessed with the gift of three children: Barry, Lawrie Ann, and Christel.

He was an active member of the Cole Camp community, a charter member of the Cole Camp Jaycees, an assistant fire chief, and served on the city council. Junior was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cole Camp, where he was a member of the Trinity Men's Club and food stand committee and was a counselor for the youth group (LYF). He was passionate about building Cole Camp Fair floats and helped build numerous floats for the Lutheran School Association. He was also a member of the Cole Camp Antique Tractor Association and American Legion Post No. 305 of Cole Camp. Junior enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, feeding treats to his grand-dogs, watching westerns and game shows, especially Let’s Make a Deal and Wheel of Fortune.

He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Weinberg of the home; two daughters, Lawrie Ann Knox of Sedalia and Christel Dixon of Cole Camp; his son, Barry Weinberg of Cole Camp; his sister, Emma Lou Case and her husband Dean of Cole Camp; and five grandchildren, Austin Weinberg, Corey Knox, Katelyn Dixon, TJ Dixon, and Lucas Knox.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Mildred Weinberg, his sister, Ruby Wilkinson, and nephew, Russell Case.

Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, 2020, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cole Camp with Pastor Gregory Truwe officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery near Cole Camp with military honors by the American Legion Post No. 305.

The family will receive friends beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, 2020, at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be given to North Benton County Seniors, Benton County Hospice, or LSA Partners in Education in care of the Fox Funeral Home, PO Box 37, Cole Camp, MO 65325.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Case, Steve Case, Brian (Jennifer) Case, Anthony (Denise) Wilkinson, Austin Weinberg, Katelyn Dixon, TJ Dixon, Lucas Knox, and Corey Knox.
