Professional Baseball Player. For twelve seasons he played left fielder and third base for the Kansas City Athletics (1955-1959) and the New York Yankees (1959-1966). He was born Héctor Headley López Swainson and got his start in high school where he was a track star and played baseball for the Panama national baseball team. After high school he signed with the St. Hyacinthe's of the Canadian Provincial League . He was acquired by the Philadelphia Athletics before the 1952 season started and allowed to mature in their minor league farm team. When they relocated to Kansas City and changed their name to the Kansas City Athletics he made his major league debut with them on May 12, 1955. In his rookie season, he finished third on the team in home runs, second in batting average and was beat out as Rookie of the Year by Herb Score of the Cleveland Indians. In 1957 he set a team recorded of 22 straight games hitting streak for the thirteen seasons the franchise played there. While with the Athletics he posted a batting average of 278 with 67 home runs and 269 RBIs, and scored 298 runs. In a package deal on May 26, 1959 he was traded to the New York Yankees. He did get to play third base during his time with the Yankees but spent most of his time in the outfield as the third outfielder with Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle. During his time with the Yankees he was part of their 1961 and 1962 World Series Championship team. He made his final appearance with the Yankees on September 30, 1966. In his twelve years in the majors he played in 1450 games posted a batting average of .269, scored 623 runs, made 136 home runs and 581 RBI's. He passed away at the age of 93 from complications of lung cancer.
