"Mrs. Ellen Wade McCandliss, a resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast for 54 years, coming to Gulfport in 1918 as a home demonstration agent for Harrison County, died Thursday at 4 a.m. at her residence, 1507 19th Ave., Gulfport. She was the widow of D.. A. McCandliss who died three years ago. Born in Hazlehurst, Mrs. McCandliss was a graduate of Mississippi State College for Women where she received a BS degree in home economics. She taught home economics in high schools in Louisiana and Mississippi. Mrs. McCandliss was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Gulfport and was presented a Life Membership in the Women of the Church. She is survived by five sisters, Mrs. J. O. Jones and Miss Mildred Wade, Gulfport; Mrs. J. B. Spitchley , Laurel; Mrs. J. E. Little, Crystal Springs; and Mrs. George N. Day, Baytown, Tex. Friends may call on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Riemann Funeral Home in Gulfport. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dr. R. L. Summers, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church , officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Gardens."
