Donahue "Donnie" Ziglar, 87, of Wewahitchka, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 1, 2023. He was born August 13, 1935, in Andalusia, Alabama and lived there throughout his childhood, until joining the United States Marine Corps. In 1966, Donnie and his family moved to Panama City, Florida, and he began his career in law enforcement. He worked for the Springfield Police Department as a police officer and later as police chief. Following his retirement as police chief, he served as commissioner for the City of Springfield for two and a half terms. Donnie and wife Dorothy moved to Wewahitchka to enjoy their golden years and be close to the river. His favorite pastime was fishing with his love at Willis Landing and working in his yard. Donnie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great and great-great grandfather. He had a love for his family that was like no other, especially for his great-granddaughter, Kalee, who he called his own.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Una Vae Ziglar; son, William "Bill" Ziglar; three brothers, DeWayne, Jerry, and Lavon; and three sisters, Dorothy, Earline, and Geraldine.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 66 years, Dorothy Ziglar; daughter, Donna Ziglar; son, Dewonis Ziglar; six grandchildren, Kristi Hagler (Buster), Michael Jones, Becky Shore (Brandon), Stacie Smith, Buddy Ziglar (Annie), and Amanda Ziglar; fourteen great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren; sister, Patricia Page; daughter-in-law, Angie Ziglar; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Sunday, February 5, 2023 at Heritage Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at 2:00 P.M., at Foreman-Brown Service Funeral Home in Andalusia, Alabama, with Rev. Frankie McVay officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Donnie will be laid to rest in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery, following the service. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons, Buddy Ziglar, Michael Jones, Kevin, Koty and Kacy Older, and Dakota Jones.
