He grew up in Kew Gardens, Queens, New York, and went to school at Forest Hills High School, Tulane University, and Northwestern University, earning degrees in Political Science. Following school, he started a political career as the 56th Mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1977, with his term ending in 1978. Throughout his schooling and politics, Jerry had his hand in broadcasting, talking on the radio, and appearing in commercials. He was then hired as a political reporter. With a strong following of fans, he started "The Jerry Springer Show" in 1991, which he is most known for. The show was known worldwide by fans and critics alike. It ended in 2018 after 27 seasons. Jerry died of pancreatic cancer at his home in Evanston, Illinois, on April 27, 2023. His private funeral was held in Chicago on Sunday, April 30, 2023, and followed traditional Jewish customs.
