"Mrs Jane Wylie Dies at Age of 81
Mrs Jane Wylie, a pioneer resident of La Salle County, died on Saturday night at the home of her nephew, John P. Wylie, in Ophir township, after a long illness. Mrs Wylie resided at 620 Congress street from the time of the death of her husband, the late James Wylie, which occurred in 1895, until September of this year. On account of her failing health she was then forced to give up housekeeping and go to the home of her nephew and niece John P. and Miss Joanna Wylie, to reside.
Mrs Wylie was 81 years of age on June 11. She was the daughter of John and Joanna Parker, and was born in Stewarton parish, Scotland. When 10 years of age she came to America with her parents and went to live on a farm near Marissa, Ill. In 1858 she came to La Salle County to make her home, settling in the northern part of the county. Her marriage occurred there on May 28 of the same year.
The family resided on a farm in Waltham township for about thirty-five years, and then retired from active life and wen to Troy Grove, where they lived until Mr Wylie's death. A few months later Mrs Wylie moved to Ottawa.
During her long residence here she made a great many friends. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church and took great interest in all the affairs of that institution.
She was the last survivor of a family of four children, her sister, Mrs Alexander Wylie, and brothers, Hugh and John Parker, all having preceded her in death.
The funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2.30 o'clock at the Waltham Presbyterian Church. Rev J.L. Vonckx, pastor of the Ottawa Presbyterian Church, will officiate."
