Tucson,Arizona – Hilda M. Onger, 90, died in Tucson, Arizona on Friday, September 2, 2005.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, September 8, 2005 at Tanque Verde Lutheran Church in Tucson, Arizona. Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, September 13 at the English Cemetery in Strandquist (Minnesota) with Pastor Mary Gilthvedt officiating.
Hilda, the daughter of William H. R. and Violet H. (Gascolgne) Eckersley was born on February 22, 1915 in Birmingham, England. She grew up in Birmingham and Marston Green, where she was employed as a secretary.
Hilda married Bertil A. Onger on July 28, 1945 and shortly thereafter came to America as a G. I. bride. They farmed in Strandquist and later lived in the Stephen area and Warren, where she was employed for many years in the auditor's office of the Marshall County Courthouse.
In 1968, they began employment at the Grand View Lodge in Brainerd, during the summer months, and the Tanque Verde Guest Ranch in Tucson during the winter, where they continued to live after retirement. Hilda lived the last few years in the M and S Adult Care Home and the Villa Maria Nursing Home.
Hilda was preceded in death by her husband, Bert of 52 years in 1998 and two grandchildren.
Hilda is survived by her son, L. (M.) Onger and daughter, C. (G.) Sistad; four grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Hildur Yoraway and Jeanette Onger; and several nieces and nephews.
