Peter Elmer Thompson, 93, died on Monday, February 3, 2003 at the Karlstad Healthcare Center in Karlstad.

Funeral services were held on Monday, February 10 at Heritage Christian School with Rev. Bryan Rengstorf officiating. Denise Aakre was the organist and the Men's Trio were the vocalists. Casketbearers were Peter's grandchildren, Jonathan Thompson, Karen Thompson, Jeremy Johnson, Brian Johnson, Brent Thompson, Steffanie Stewart, Michelle Johnson, Debbie Evans and Scott Stewart. Honorary casketbearers were all those who attended the service. Interment was in Karlstad Cemetery in Karlstad.

Peter Elmer Thompson was born on July 30, 1909, the son of Ole and Kristina (Bolin) Thompson in Roseau County. As a child, he moved with his family to a farm in Lincoln Township of Marshall County, where he grew up and attended school.

On October 1, 1935, he married Pearl Vagle in Karlstad. He was employed on a farm near Drayton, N.D. for three years, then moved to the couple's present farm. In 1942, they moved to Karlstad, where Peter was employed as a butter maker, then to Bemidji, where he also worked as a butter maker for a year. The couple returned to the farm, where they have since resided. Peter worked for Leonard Thompson Construction for many years, in addition to raising turkeys. He also worked for Ranum Construction and at Arctic Enterprises, both in Thief River Falls. In later years, he raised beef cattle.

Survivors include his wife, Pearl; a son, David (Phaela) of Strandquist; three daughters, LaVonne Johnson of Strandquist, Sherrie Stewart of Burnsville and Rebecca (Danny) Johnson of Karlstad; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; eight great great-grandchildren; two brothers, Isaac (Betsy) of Strandquist and George Walter of Karlstad; six sisters, Mary Renstrom, Elsie Lefrooth, Myrtle Vagle, Gloria (Danny) Renstrom and Geneva Nordin, all of Karlstad, and Hazel (Morris) Anderson of Strandquist; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Peter was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gene; a granddaughter; a brother, Ernest; and two sisters, Bertha and Dorothy.
