He also owned and operated Butterbaugh Insurance Agency for several years. He showed registered Hampshire hogs at the Indiana State Fair for 22 years, and was a member of the Manchester United Methodist Church.
He married Ethel Mae Conrad on May 20, 1942 in Wabash County; she died June 4, 1970. He then married Eunice Hanley on September 19, 1971, she survives.
