Hershell Blanton, 79, of Paintsville, died Thursday, July 2, 2002, at Paul B. Hall Medical Center, Paintsville. Born July 6, 1922, in Lawrence County, a son of the late Dock and Verna Lee Crace Blanton, he was retired from Big Sandy Allied and was a U.S. Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Holbrook Blanton of Paintsville; a son, Ray Blanton of Staffordsville; two daughters, Phyllis Shotts of Springfield, Ohio, and Kay Castle of Sitka; three brothers, Wendell "Nig" Blanton, of Paintsville, Robert Lee Blanton of Oil Springs and James Blanton of Michigan; a sister, Juanita Horne of Barnetts Creek; five grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted by Revs. Doug Crider, Wendell Isom, Lowell King, and Kenny Pelphrey Friday, July 5, at Staffordsville Free Will Baptist Church, Staffordsville. Burial was in Staffordsville Church Cemetery. Jones-Preston Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
