On February 9, 1839, in Orange County North Carolina, Sarah Paris, 75, filed for a widow’s pension stating that she is the widow of William Paris, a deceased pensioner of the United States at the rate of $20 per annum; that William Paris died September 13, 1836; that there is no record of her marriage to William Paris but she knows from the birth of her eldest child, John Paris, who was born according to the family record March 13, 1782 that she must have been married to him nine months prior to the birth of that child which would make the date of her marriage June 14, 1782; that they were married in Chatham County by Reverend Elathan Davis; that the Family record of the births of her children reads as follows:
"William Paris and his wife Sarah Paris children's ages
John Paris was born March 13 day A.D. 1782
Henry Paris was born August 5 day A.D. 1784
Charles Paris was born March 14 A.D. 1786
Mary Paris was born the __ Day of January 1788
Charity Paris was born November 1, 1791
William Paris, Junior, was born November 26 A.D. 1795
