Rogelio was born in Racine,Wisconsin and
from there they moved to Northbrook,IL.
The Bocanegra family moved to Crystal,TX,
where Rogelio attend high school and played
on the football team.
After graduating Rogelio returned back to
Northbrook.While working there he enlisted
in the Marines 22 August 1966,at the Chicago
Recruiting Office,
He arrived in Vietnam and was assigned to Alpha Company,1st Battalion,1st Marine Regiment,1st Marine Division.
Rogelio was on a combat patrol when a Marine stepped on a mine that killed 2 Marines and wounded Rogelio 24 May 1967, 4 kilometers east of Hoi An,in the vicinity area of Danang.
He had surgical amputation of his left arm below the elbow and left leg at the knee on 31 May.
Due to the nature of his wounds Rogelio was
taken to the Clark USAF Hospital in the
Philippines.He died 4 June of septicemia and
of the fragmentation wounds to his left chest,
left arm and left leg.
Rogelio was single and served his country for
9 months and 13 days and was KIA #13,258.
Tour of duty date unknown.
Rogelio was 21 years,10 months and 10 days
old.
Survived by his parents;Earsmo and Maria
Bocanegra of 1512 North 5th Avenue,Crystal
City,TX.
His brother and sister-in-law;Ricardo & Amada
Bocanegra,brothers,Constancio and Gilberto
Bocanegra and 2 sister all of Crystal City.

NOTE:
His brother and sister-in-law are buried at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
