OBITUARY

Otis Franklin, age 80, of Tuscaloosa, died August 7, 2009, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, August 10, 2009, at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Larry Wallace and Bro. Albert Lyles officiating. Burial will follow in Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be tonight from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his son, Roddy Otis Franklin; his parents, Lawrence and Thelma Franklin; and a special friend, Fay Clements.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years; his daughter; his sons; his grandchildren, great-grandchildren; aunts; and sisters-in-law.

"Big O" started his career in road construction with Marion Construction Company of Ocala, Florida in 1952. Upon returning to Tuscaloosa, he worked for Peabody Coal Company and in 1976 he accepted a position in supervision for Drummond Coal Company, where he worked until his retirement in 1992. He came out of retirement in 1995 to work as a coal consultant for Drummond Coal Company, helping open the mine located in La Loma, Columbia, and South America.

His passions were his family, working on his farm and in his yard, and traveling with Big Mom and his friends in his motorhome to Alabama football games. He was very much loved and respected and will be missed by all.

Pallbearers will be Ray Collins, Bob Collins, Mike Collins, David Franklin, Charles Ray Franklin, Bobby Franklin, Dennis Noland, and Leon Sellers.
