Sarah and her sisters were Dressmakers by trade. In 1881, at 27 years of age, Sarah began working for 'Her Majesty' Queen Victoria as a Lady's Maid. She employed her sewing skills as part of her duties. Sarah was in the hallway when Queen Victoria died and she recalled there was "much weeping". January 22, 1901 was a very sad day for all of England when death enveloped their beloved Queen and longest reigning monarch!

Sarah arrived New York 20 Oct 1919 on Ship "Rotterdam" (age 66); residence: London.

"On occasion, Sarah would visit her sister, Mary, in Pontiac, Illinois. On another visit, she came to Wolcott, Indiana to visit her niece, Annie. While there, she related her experiences of how she sewed complete wardrobes of doll clothes for the little princesses of England."
(Annie (Benge) McDuffie, c. 1919)

Sarah is listed as unmarried on the list of Queen Victoria's Staff, England and Wales Census, 1881 at New Windsor, Berkshire, England, Registration District: Windsor; Occupation: Ladys Maid; Age: 27 (familysearch.org). Sarah worked at Windsor Castle the same time John Brown also worked there. A movie was made about the friendship between The Queen and John Brown entitled, "Mrs Brown" - an excellent movie starring Judy Dench. Sarah worked at Windsor Castle until she retired.

She died after 1920 in England.
