Anne Lewis Meriwether was the daughter and first child of David Wood Meriwether (M1228) and Mary Lewis (M128). Her parents were second cousins, g-grandchildren of Nicholas Meriwether II and Elizabeth Crawford.

Anne was born in Caroline County, Virginia on 22 Mar 1783 as recorded in a family Bible and calculated from her age at death as shown on her headstone. Some references have 7 Jul 1785, but that conflicts with the headstone and the 1785 birth of her sister Martha.

Anne married John Burruss Jr., son of Rev. John Burruss and Rachel Terrell, on 8 Jan 1806 in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. Anne and John had at least eight named children: John Henry, Mary Anne Meriwether, David Nelson, Frank, Barbara Terrell, George Lewis Chiles Terrell and Thomas Lewis Burruss. There were at least two who died as infants and were unnamed.

John Burruss, Jr. and his wife would become one of the first families in Kentucky and likely one of the first families in Illinois. John Burruss Jr. died in 1846 in Greene County. (Reference: Cheryl Gunn Maxwell)
