The Iberia Sentinel, January 1930

Samuel Ira Burks, age 56, died at his home 6 miles northwest of Iberia, Thursday, Jan. 16, at 7:30 p.m. following a long illness. He had been a sufferer of diabetes for the past few years, however his condition did not give occasion for immediate alarm until just a short time before his death. He suffered a heart attack sometime during the day from which he did not rally.

Mr. Burks was one of our best and most widely known citizens, being of a cheerful disposition and a friend indeed to his many acquaintances and associates.

Funeral service, conducted by Rev. Chas. M. Sooter, was held at 10 o'clock Saturday morning in the Fairview Christian Church of which he was a member. Interment was at Livingston Cemetery under direction of Adams Casey, local funeral directors.

Mr. Burks is survived by his wife and six children, namely: Virgil, Mrs. Lottie Irwin, Sammy, Victor, Johnny and Dotsie. The Sentinel joins in extending to the bereaved, heartfelt sympathy.
