He was born to Arshag and Varteni (Erinegian?) Deravedisian in 1905 or 1906. They lived in Mama Hatum village (now Tercan) in the district of Erzincan. When the Armenian Genocide of 1915 began, the men of the village were targeted including his father who was taken away and killed. His uncle Haroutune offered to flee with Kevork across the border into the safety of Russian-occupied Erzurum, however Kevork would not leave his mother and so was deported with her and his sisters. His mother died on the deportation route while his sisters survived and were raised in an orphanage. Kevork presumably survived with Almaskar and her young daughter Zovinar, but their story of escape is unknown. Kevork and his sisters all made their way to the United States where they had relatives and settled in Philadelphia. Kevork married Nevart Bedigian and they had 5 children Arshag George, Florence, Anthony, Florence, and Alice.
