Lucy Elwell comes from the prominent and distinguished Elwell Family of Dudley,Massachusetts. She married,David Sanderson in Dudley,Massachusetts on Jan 18,1827.Lucy Elwell and her husband David Sanderson lived in Brandon,Vermont at 27 Marble Street(pictured here).Lucy's Father was,Abiel Elwell (1781-1865)of Dudley,Massachusetts.He married Lucy's mother,Rachel Foster (1783-1860),also of Dudley,Massachusetts.Lucy Elwell was the first born of their eight children.Her siblings were as follows...

Lucy Elwell's,maternal,Lieut Timothy Foster and her paternal, Lieut Mark Elwell grandfathers were both Patriots in the Revoluanary War.Both are buried at,Dudley,Massachusetts's Corbin Cemetery

Lucy Elwell and her husband David Sanderson had a total of six children in the following order,Rachel Foster Sanderson born Sept 16,1827 was named after her maternal Grandmother,Rachel Foster .Rachel married late in life when she married ,William Morris Catlin in 1880.They lived in Brandon,Vt,Rachel dies in Brandon in 1897,Lucy Maria Sanderson was born Oct 23 1829 and dies at the young age of 2 on June 3 1832,Harriet Sanderson born in 1830 dies in infancy that same year.Charles Wesley Sanderson born July 6,1833,who never marries,becomes an accomplished Artist and Musician.Charles Wesley dies at the home of his brother,William Harley Sanderson in Dayton,Ohio on Mar,1905.Eliza Jane Sanderson born Oct 5,1839 also marries late at the age of 46.She marries,William Frances Leavitt and they take up residence in Kalamazoo,Michigan which was not far from her brother,Charles Wesley's Lake Michican Estate in Ceder Falls,which they were frequent guest of during the summer month's.Eliza Jane dies at the age of 90 on May 27,1930 in Kalamazoo,Michican.Last to be born is their son,William Harley Sanderson born Apr 11 1844.After serving, with the rank of Sergeant,in the 9th Vermont regiment and other regular army regiments of the Union Army during the Civil War he first marries,Frances Ellen Lewis Feb 26 1867.Just six days short of her one year wedding anniversary,Frances falls ill with pneumonia and dies Feb 20,1868.William Harley Sanderson waits almost a decade before he marries again.This time to,Elizabeth Augusta Howe of Middlebury,Vt.Elizabeth was the 3nd great granddaughter of, Nehemiah Howe one of the first settlers on the Vermont Fronteer,who was taken captive by Indians near Ft Putney,Vermont.Just before his release he became ill and died.Elizabeth and William Harley marry at the home of the bride's parents in Middlebury on Feb 2,1876.Elizabeth and William have two children.William Harley dies in Dayton ,Ohio on Dec 4,1911.

David Sanderson and Lucy Elwell live out their lives in Brandon ,Vt.The Sanderson homestead,pictured here,is at 27 Marble St in Brandon.The house still stands to this day.Census records show him and his family in Brandon in 1830,1840,1850 and 1860.His occupation is listed as a Carpenter in 1850 and 1860.In 1869 David Sanderson falls ill and dies of tubular consumption. David's brother Alpheus Sanderson also had a large family in Brandon Vt.David and Alpheus's descendants make up many of the current day descendant's in and around Rutland County and beyond today.With the exception of Davids daughter Eliza Jane Sanderson,who is buried in Michigan, David and Alpheus Sanderson's children are all buried at Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandon,Vt
