Jonathan Rice, 81, of this place died at the Home hospital, Lafayette, at 8:35 o'clock this morning of a complication of diseases. He was taken to the hospital September 18. Born near Newtown in Fountain County, March 6, 1857, Mr. Rice was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Rice. He lived in Linden for the past 43 years, on September 2, 1880, he married Mary Kit. He was familiarly known as John. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. John Stephenson and Mrs. Isaac Montgomery, both of New Richmond, and Mrs. E. A. Beach of Crawfordsville. Funeral services will be held at the family residence at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon with Rev. A. H. Northrup in charge.
