Joint funeral services for prominent Converse County ranchers, John C. Esau, 81, and his wife, Elma, 79, were held at the Church of Christ Congregational in Douglas, Monday, November 26 with the Rev. Howard Hall officiating. The Esaus died at their ranch, eight miles east of Bill, following an incident which resulted in their attempt to walk a distance from their stalled vehicle to their home.

Mrs. Esau was born Oct. 8, 1894 at Petersburg, Nebraska, the daughter of Charles and Mary Evaline Thomas. She spent her girlhood in Petersburg, and there received her education.

Survivors include three sons, Donald of Torrence, California; Richard of Lancaster, California; and Harold of Casper; two daughters, Mrs. Howard (Helen) Bess of Denver, and Mrs. James (Irene) Story of Casper; 23 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. One son, Ivan, preceded the couple in death.
