Harold Ray Esau was reared on the family ranch north of Douglas. He attended school at Bill and graduated from Douglas High School in 1950. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps Nov. 13, 1950 and in 1953, went to work for the Texaco refinery in Casper, where he worked for almost 20 years.

He married Phyllis Clark in Casper on June 19, 1954. He then served two years in the U.S. Army, serving one year in Viet Nam and one year in Germany in 1969 and 1970, and had been active in the Army Reserve since his discharge. During 27 years of military service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal with two stars and the U.N. Service Medal. In 1973 after the death of his parents, he moved to the family ranch, which he operated until his death.

He is survived by two sons, Mark of Casper and Clay of Glenrock; two brothers, Donald of Torrance, CA; and Richard of Tehachapi, CA; two sisters, Helen Bess of Englewood, CO. his twin sister, and Irene Story of Lusk; three grandchildren Tyler and Chelsey both of Casper and Aleea of Glenrock; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ivan.
