Ella Hicks was born on October 31, 1919, and died on October 20, 1921, just a few days before her third birthday. She was the daughter of Woots and Susie Hicks. She woke up on that cold October morning and was backing up to the hearth to get warm when her nightgown caught on fire. She died of massive burns. She was also survived by siblings Mellie Hicks, Mabrey Hicks, Albert Hicks, Agrey Hicks. She is buried beside her younger brother Edgar Hicks who was born five years after Ella died and only lived to be ten himself. Her parents and two of her siblings, Mellie Hicks and Mabry Hicks are buried in the Woots Hicks Cemetery at Dema in Knott County Kentucky.
