Civil War Congressonal Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Sergeant in the Union Army in Company A, 9th New Hampshire Infantry. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for action on July 30, 1864 at Petersburg, Virginia. His citation reads "Was one of the first in the exploded mine, captured a number of prisoners, and was himself captured, but escaped." He was cremated at Oak Woods Cemetery, Chicago, Illinois, and his ashes were returned to his family. Their final disposition has become lost to history.
