Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as an Ordinary Seaman in the Union Navy during the Civil War, enlisting on January 14, 1862. During his service, he served as a crewmember on board the screw steamer USS "Varuna" and the screw sloop-of-war USS "Oneida" as part of the West Gulf Blockading Squadron and the receiving ship USS "Savannah." He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery on August 5, 1864, while serving on the "Oneida" at the Battle of Mobile Bay, Alabama, with his citation reading, "Acting as an aid to the executive officer, Woram carried orders intelligently and correctly, distinguishing himself by his cool courage throughout the battle which resulted in the capture of the rebel ram Tennessee and the damaging of Fort Morgan." His Medal of Honor was awarded to him on December 31, 1864, and he was honorably mustered out of the Union Navy on February 27, 1865.
