LLEWELLYN L. BENNETT LAID TO REST
Llewellyn L. (Dick) Bennett, 68, retired Chetopa resident, died at 7:35 a.m. Sunday in the University of Kansas Medical Center at Kansas City where he had surgery performed Friday morning. He had been in ill health for some time and entered the hospital Feb. 17.
Bennett was born May 8, 1891, near Edna, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Bennett. He was married in Sept. 1914 to Dee Strickland at Girard. They had lived in Chetopa for the past 44 years and his entire life was spent in the Edna and Chetopa communities.
He was employed for 23 years with Texaco Cities Service pipeline and retired in 1957. He had owned and operated a gaage previously. He was a member of the Chetopa lodge, AF&AM.
Survivors include his wife of the home, two brothers, John of Edna and Clayton of Mound Valley; a sister, Mrs. Clyde Phillips, Lafayette, Colo; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today in the Miller Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Roy F. Horton, former pastor of the Chetopa Christian Church now of Eureka Springs, Ark., presiding. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.
