Son of David Patterson who left for the civil war when Alvia was 6 months old. David never returned. Alvia's mother Lavina Clark Patterson died when Alvia was 3 years old, leaving him an orphan.
His obit states he died at Grace Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.
He was married to Minnie Albaugh 24 Dec 1884 in Utica, Ohio. In April of the following year they came to Kansas and settled on a farm near Pollard in Rice County. They lived here until March 1916 when they moved into Lyons, Kansas where they presently live (March 1918). To this union were born 11 children, 6 sons and 5 daughters:
Lewis and Clarence of Pollard, Maurice of Dodge City, David, Arel and Clifford of Lyons, Mrs Florence Judy of Pollard, Mrs Ila Diskey of near Lyons, and Neva Patterson of Lyons, and two grandsons, Howard Diskey and Max Judy. Daughter Zola Ann, aged 17 months, died in 1901 and daughter Ethel May, aged 12 years, died in 1902.
