Sarah Gerber was born August 5 1801 in Somerset County, Pennsylvania to Amish parents, Abraham and Magdalena Gerber. In 1812, Sarah, age 11, moved with her family to Holmes County, Ohio.
About 1823 Sarah married Jacob Stutzman (1798- 1850). Six children were born to the union, Christian, Abraham, David Jacob G, Magdalena and John. In 1850 Sarah’s husband Jacob died by which time their youngest; John, was 18 years of age.
In the 1860 Census Sarah, 59, a widow of 10 years, is listed living next door to her son Jacob G with a 16 year old Sophia Stutzman in Walnut Creek Holmes County, Ohio.
By 1870 at 68 Sarah is listed as a member of son Jacob G’s household Walnut Creek Holmes County, Ohio.
1880 US Census of son Jacob G Stutzman Sarah is listed as a member of his household Walnut Creek Holmes, Ohio.
In February 1882 a great tragedy struck the family when son Jacob’s second son, George, is killed in a boiler explosion. His oldest son, Mike, injures a leg in the incident that necessitates amputation. http://www.mcusa-archives.org/mennobits/1882/apr1882.html
Sometime afterwards, the Stutzman’s joined many other Amish families and moved west to Nebraska. They settled on the rich open prairies of Seward county, where in 1886, Sarah passed from this life.

STUTZMAN - On the 20th of March, in Seward Co., Neb., Sarah, widow of Jacob Stutzman, of Walnut Creek, Holmes Co., Ohio, aged 84 years, 8 months and 15 days. She was a member of the Amish Mennonite Church, and was buried at their Meeting house on the 21st. She leaves 5 children, 59 grandchildren and 102 great grand-children. Funeral services were held by Joseph Shlegel and Joseph Rediger from John 11:23-27.
