Thursday morning in the prosecuting attorney's office Coroner A. W.
Davis conducted an inquest over the death of August Duxa, the miner who was
accidentally shot and killed by Charles Aubihl at the coal mine of George Aubihl
in Oldtown valley Wednesday morning. Davis declared a verdict of accidental
shooting, and completely exonerated Aubihl, who gave himself up to Sheriff Polen
Wednesday noon. Aubihl, Frank Mizer, who owned the revolver with which Aubihl
shot and killed Duxa, and Jesse Haney, the young man to whom Mizer was going to
trade the weapon, all appeared before the coroner and told their story of the
tragedy. Coroner Davis released the three on the condition that they support
Duxa's widow for a temporary period. Mrs. Duxa is in a bad condition
financially, having very little money. Duxa carried
no life insurance, and although he was a hard working man all his life, was
unable to save anything. The boy's will be asked to pay for Duxa's funeral
expenses, and also see that she is taken care of until definite arrangements for
support can be made. The funeral services of Duxa will be held Saturday morning
at the Catholic church in this city. Interment will be made in the Catholic
cemetery. The hour of the services has not yet been determined.
