Sarah Kent was born on 19 Feb 1756 in Marshfield, MA, the daughter of Elisha Kent and Susanna Foord (or Ford). She died between 1830 and 1840 in North Haven, ME. No burial records have been found for her parents.

Sarah married twice. She was first married to Melzar Sampson on 2 Mar 1780 in Duxbury, Plymouth, MA. Sarah and Melzar had 3 children, all born in Duxbury, MA:

1. Sarah Sampson: 31 Dec 1780 (no further information is known about her)
2. Lucy Sampson: 26 Nov 1782 - 16 Jul 1872 (died in Rockland, ME)
3. Melzar Sampson (Jr): 14 Mar 1785 - 5 June 1861 (died in North Haven, ME)

Melzar, Sr., died before 7 Feb 1787 in Duxbury, Plymouth, MA (date of his probate hearing), leaving Sarah a widow with three young children.

On 26 Mar 1801, Sarah married Stephen Carver, a widower. Stephen Carver's first wife, Deborah Kent (a cousin of Sarah), died on North Haven, Knox, ME, in 1800. Stephen traveled to Duxbury, Plymouth, MA, and he married Sarah in the family town of Marshfield. Stephen and Sarah returned to North Haven with at least 2 of her 3 children. Stephen & Sarah resided in his family home, located north northeast of Kent Cove.

Stephen died in 1824. Sarah was designated as the executrix in Stephen's will, but she successfully petitioned the probate court to designate one of Stephen's sons in law as executor in her place. The attachment describes the probate proceedings.

In 1830, Sarah is residing by herself on North Haven by Henry Norton, Ebenezer Young, Benjamin & Ezekiel Kent. She was between 70 & 80 years old. No later records have been found for her.

[Sarah Kent was my 4th great-grandmother. The above biographical material is an adaptation of material originally prepared by BarbR. I have removed material that more appropriately belongs in the FAG memorials for her two husbands. I also have moved a detailed discussion of Stephen Carver's probate into a separate file, attached to this memorial. Finally, I have removed some of the detailed references to official documents in the interest of brevity. These citations belong more appropriately in the family tree documentation.
