Page 3 Death's Doings
Mr. Thornton Porter died Wednesday after a long illness of dropsy, in his 86th year. During his long life Mr. Porter proved a valuable citizen, a splendid neighbor and there are many who to-day grieve over his death, although they were aware of the fact that his race was well-nigh run. He was a devout Christian and had for a number of years been a leading light in the Rush Branch church. Unfortunately for Mr. Porter his good wife preceded him to the grave some 10 years and the last years of his life have been spent to a great extent, in solitude, but his thought of a brighter home above went a long ways toward comforting him. Mr. Porter reared a large family and he died with the happy thought that they have all proven worthy of the good example set for them. Rev. John Bell Gibson will preach the funeral this A. M., after which the remains will be laid to rest in the family burying ground.
