DAVIS
Hattie Elizabeth Sams, daughter of John W. and Catherine Courtney Sams, was born September 24, 1882 in Warren County, Ia. and passed away at the Chariton Manor, February 1, 1978, at the age of 95 years, 4 months and 6 days.
On September 28, 1904, she was united in marriage to Arthur Franklin Davis, who passed away August 15, 1967. To this union two children were born: Russell Davis and Mrs. Arthur (Lorene) Hixson, both of Chariton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters, six brothers and one great-granddaughter.
She accepted Christ as her Saviour at an early age at the Friends Church at Motor, Ia. She loved to read her Bible as long as her eyesight would allow.
She is survived by her son, Russell and wife, Nina; daughter, Lorene and husband, Arthur; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Lillie Sams of Indianola, Mrs. Ellen Sams of Pleasantville and Mrs. Della Sams of Colorado; and one brother-in-law, Ervia Davis of Knoxville.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, at the Fielding Funeral Home, with the Rev. Hazel Morton officiating. Interment was in the Lincoln Cemetery at Knoxville.
