MASON

Norma Bernice Davis Mason, daughter of Russell R. and Nina Sutton Davis, was born in Lucas County, Iowa, June 1, 1926, and passed away at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines on Aug. 11, 1987 at the age of 61 years, 2 months and 10 days. She attended rural schools in Lucas County and Chariton High School. Her entire life was spent in Lucas County, the past 32 years in her present home at 703 Park Avenue in Chariton.

On Aug. 29, 1943, at Russell, Norma was united in marriage to Lyle E. Mason of Chariton. To this union was born four children: Patty, Virginia, Larry and Gary. Norma was a homemaker until her sons were in high school. She was then employed at Gross Galesburg in Chariton for 10 years and at Chariton Community Schools for four years until her health forced her to resign.

Norma was a kind and loving wife and mother, her first concern was always the welfare and happiness of her family and others. Even in the past few years of declining health and many hospitalizations, she still thought of her family's needs above her own.

Norma was a member of the Sunshine Worker's Club and Red Haw Campers Club. Norma received Christ as her Savior and joined the First Baptist Church in Chariton in January, 1945.

She was preceded in death by her father, Russell Davis, and infant daughter, Virginia Lee.

She is survived by her husband, Lyle, her mother, Nina Davis, daughter, Patty McKay and husband, Ronny of Chariton; sons: Larry Mason and wife, Cindy of Fort Dodge, and Gary Mason of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.. Five grandchildren, Susan McKay of Chariton; Brian and Natalie Mason of Fort Dodge; Carrie and Chris Mason of Phoenix, Ariz. Two brothers, LaVern Davis of Chariton, and Glen Davis of Pocatello, Idaho, and one sister, Charlene Stephens of Chariton, and other relatives and a host of friends. Norma will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 14, 1987 at the Fielding Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronald Stein officiating. Interment was in the Chariton Cemetery. Bearers were Roger Allen, Merlin Brenaman, George Kline, Darrel Greubel, Neil Smith and Ken Chronister.
