HIXSON
Darl Edward Hixson was born Nov. 30, 1937, in Marion County, Iowa, the first son of Arthur Burton and Lorene DeLois Davis Hixson. He passed away at his home on Nov. 27, 1998, at the age of 60 years, 11 months and 27 days.
Darl attended school at Melcher at an early age, then Renfro, Williamson and Chariton public schools, graduating in 1956.
On March 9, 1958, he was united in marriage to Barbara Jo Parsons, To this union two children were born, Kevin Wayne and Julie Ann.
Darl was an outdoor enthusiast. He enjoyed hunting and was a member of the Chariton Sportsman's Club and was a hunting safety instructor. He was also active in the Chariton River Valley Antique Power Association and the Chariton Boy Scouts. Darl also enjoyed woodworking and sausage making. He was a member of the Chariton Christian Church, Disciples of Christ.
Darl was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Lorene Hixson.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Barbara; son, Kevin of Newton, Iowa, daughter, Julie and son-in-law, Greg Burzette of Des Moines, four grandchildren, Dakotah Hixson of Newton, Abraham, Stuart and Olivia Burzette of Des Moines; one brother, Charles G. Hixson of Chariton; two sisters, Phyllis A. Adams of Norwalk and M. Jolene Goemaat of Des Moines; several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998, at the Fielding Funeral Home with the Rev. Carla Hillyer officiating. Burial was in the Chariton Cemetery. Serving as bearers were Brad Adams, Jon Adams, Nick Adams, Jamie Hickman, Billy Carnahan and Scott Carnahan. Honorary bearers included Bruce Smith, Bob Smith, Joe Steinbach, Brian Snuggs and Kurt Prough.
