Oral Ranum, Stanley, passed away on February 5, 2011 at the Mountrail Bethel Home in Stanley at the age of 91. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, February 11, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Saviors Free Lutheran Church, Stanley.

Oral was born January 27, 1920 at Warren, Minnesota to Oscar and Clara (Olson) Ranum. He was united in marriage to Barbara (Austad) on April 22, 1944 in Viking, Minnesota. They moved to the Palermo area in 1944 and farmed until 1952 when they moved to Stanley. They started the Stanley Laundry which they owned and operated until 1998. Oral and Barbara were instrumental in establishing Our Saviors Free Lutheran Church in Stanley. He was active in the community, serving on the church council, Stanley Ambulance, Stanley Theater Development Corporation and the Stanley Commercial Club. Oral enjoyed gardening, woodworking and hunting with his kids. After he retired from the laundry, he especially enjoyed helping with the fall harvest.

From this marriage they were blessed with six children. The highlight of his life was his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Oral is survived by his wife Barb; sons Donald, Gerald, Kenneth, Myron, Marlin; daughter Ruth Hysjulien; 15 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; brother, Oscar; sisters Marceline Grundhaus, Margaret Lind, Delores Forland; numerous nieces and nephews.

Oral was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Maynard.
