H.E. Rawlings was the oldest of 10 children. He was the first child of our Rawlings family to be born in the US (his mother was pregnant on the ship from Liverpool). He was born in 1851 in Alton, Madison, Illinois to Ann & Eber Rawlings. The family lived in Alton for a few years, working on a farm. H.E.'s father was the branch president of the Mormon church there.

The small family left Alton in June, 1862 and made their way to Florence (Omaha) NB.

H.E. was a Mormon wagon trail pioneer. He crossed the plains w/ Ansil Harmon Co. leaving Florence, NB Aug 1, 1862 & arriving Oct 5th in Salt Lake. He was 10 & traveled with his mother, father, brothers & sisters. His job was to help his father & brother with keeping track of the cattle. The journey was 1,000 miles of which he walked the entire distance.

Mormons were needed to settle Provo so they migrated there. He grew up in Provo where his father Eber helped build the Old Provo Tabernacle.

His first job in Provo was working at the new woolen mill, according to the 1880 Census after his marriage.
He later became a favorite "tonsorial" (barber), an occupation he had for life, retiring at age 67.

Henry helped build Utah's first RR (Midland) up Provo Canyon. One of his favorite hobbies was fishing for trout at Strawberry Reservoir.

He married Sarah Ann McCauslin on Nov. 11, 1872 in Salt Lake City at the Endowment House. They resided in Provo where they had 3 children. Their last little baby, Reva, passed away as an infant. They then moved to Salt Lake in 1895.

H.E. & Sarah were married 52 years. He passed away in Salt Lake City where they had lived for over 30 years. He is buried in Provo. He was 73 years old. Sadly, he passed the day after Christmas--my family said he was just like an Angel.

Sarah passed away in 1932.
